Philosophy Literature Art Imagination & Drama

What is Cafe PLAID? Cafe PLAID stands for Philosophy, Literature, Art, Imagination, and Drama. It is an organization designed for anyone who
has an open mind and an artistic soul. The intent is to bring together a
group of free-spirited, free-thinking individuals so that we may share and
unite in our artistic expression. You may be interested if you are fascinated
with philosophy, if you have a voice that you want the world to hear, if you
are a lover of music and dance, if you enjoy acting and the theatrical arts,
if you have an open mind, if you are a humanitarian, if you are interested
in exploring world cultures, if you are interested in literary analysis, or if
you enjoy writing, poetry, painting, drawing and other fine arts.
Cafe PLAID was started by Racheal Droege, Kelly Fino, and Beca
Iannone, three individuals who shared a common interest in promoting
creativity and open mindedness amongst the people of today. "The ideas
of an organization like this one have been circulating for about two years
now," says Racheal Droege, one of the founding members of the group.
"It's funny, but the whole idea stemmed from a time when a few friends
and I were lying down in the family room of one of their homes, looking
up and analyzing the many abstract paintings that hung on the wall.
We got into an entire discussion on impressionism and perception of
truth, and were eventually discussing universal philosophies in comparison
to our philosophies. It felt really good to be able to sit around with friends
and share and discuss our beliefs and analysis of the world around us.
That's when the idea was first born. We were all thinking how neat it would
be to start an organization that is dedicated to such expression and
openness of the mind and soul."
In addition to being one of the founding members of Cafe PLAID,
Racheal is also the spokesperson for the group, who opens meetings
and leads group discussions. Rebecca Iannone is the group's Organizer,
and is responsible for planning and organizing events, as well as taking
care of financial issues and fundraising. Kelly Fino is the Creative
Specialist of the group, and is responsible for coming up with ideas for
upcoming events.
The three work together  freely and democratically with the members
of Cafe PLAID to make decisions and create ideas for future events.
"We hope to reach out to many, and hopefully gain quite a few members
once we start advertising more within the community," says Racheal.
Cafe PLAID meets every Sunday and is open to welcoming any new
guests. If you are interested, join us! For more information you may

WEEKLY BULLETIN for April 15th, 2005
This Sunday, April 17th, Cafe PLAID will be holding a meeting at Camp Chiques, where we will also be having a bonfire, poetry, music and more. It begins at 6:30 pm. DIRECTIONS: Coming from Hempfield High School, turn left at the intersection where the Turkey Hill is. Stay on that road and go through Salunga until eventually you will see an iron train bridge above the road and to your left will be a sign saying Camp Chiques. That's where we'll be! Follow the path back through the woods until you see the bonfire. Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Racheal and Kelly
